Dr. Xavier Le Guevel obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degrees in Chemistry from the University of Nantes (France) in 1999 and 2002, respectively. He received his PhD in 2006 at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (Tours, France) working on colloidal silica nanoparticles for optical coatings and chemical gas sensor applications. Following this, he joined the Physics department at the University of Tor Vergata (Rome II) dealing with the fabrication of optical waveguide nanomaterials for biosensing through a European project (FP6).

In 2007 he was recruited as a senior postdoctoral researcher by the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute, based at the Dublin City University, to investigate multifunctional nanoparticles (luminescent, plasmonics) for the signal amplification of immunoassay development.

In 2010 he was awarded an Andalusian Research Programme for the regional integration of scientists in nanomedical research. He joined the Biopharmaceutical Department at the University of Saarland led by Pr. Claus-Michael Lehr as a guest for 2 years and worked with Pr Marc Schneider on fluorescent metal nanoclusters for bioimaging applications.

Since 2012 he has being based within BIONAND, the Andalusian Centre for Nanomedicine and Biotechnology in Malaga, Spain as part of the Therapeutic Nanosystems Area.

In 2013 he was awarded a Miguel Servet grant, funded by Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII) in January 2013. His main research activities are related to the use of nanoparticles for the treatment of allergic diseases in close collaboration with the Allergy Department of the Carlos Haya Hospital (Malaga) led by Dr. Miguel Blanca. He continues to investigate different types of multimodal contrast agents for bioimaging applications via international collaborations.
