Therapeutic Nanosystems
This area will focus on the development and research of nanosystems which protect, transport and release drugs or therapeutic agents by a controlled method leading to an easier administration, being more selective and effective, and therefore less toxic.
The research lines prioritized within this area will be: [+]
- Study and development of nanosystems which permit the drug or therapeutic agent to have a controlled transport and location.
- Identification of new therapeutic agents (enzymes, proteins, nucleic acids…) that could be encapsulated into these types of nanosystems.
- Study and development of transfection nanosystems for gene therapy.
- Nanostructure research which offers alternatives to conventional treatments or to improve already existing treatments allowing them to be more specific and effective (e.g. nanoparticles for hyperthermia treatments.)
- Study of nanostructures as adjuvants for new vaccines and new immunotherapy treatments.
- Research and development of drug controlled dosage (e.g. biodegradable nanostructures or remote opening ones).
- Within this area, research lines directed to the development of effective nanosystems will be increased for difficult to cure and high incidence diseases, such as cancer (i.e. selective tumour vectoring), neurodegenerative diseases (ie passage through the blood brain barrier) and cardiovascular diseases.
